A flash of light illuminates the stage. The camera focuses in on a central figure, a domineering voice in a sea of anguish. All eyes are upon them - at least, for now. In this piece, the viewer is confronted with the unsettling truth: today’s issue may not be tomorrow’s issue. When the spotlight moves, that which we thought important becomes less important than we thought.
Artists Benjamin Steer and Matthew Turk of the Schneed Collective pose a question: are the little dilemmas in the dark actually little, or are they merely far away? They then pose a second question: are the dilemmas misrepresented? The “ishyou” raises two questions of its own: a misspelling, or is the dilemma pointing at ishyou?
“Little dilemmas in the dark, flittering here and there. Little ones, tell me your names!”
~ Benjamin Steer of the Schneed Collective
